How to make an animated location map
Drop a pin on a real street map, show a delivery radius, build a store locator, zoom from the world to a street, or map data by country, all free and without an API key.
Maps are not only for travel videos. Businesses show where they are, news explains where something happened, and data channels color the world by numbers. Here is how to make each kind.
One place
- Map pin drop: a real street map settles in as a pin drops, with a name card.
- You are here: a round street map with a live location dot.
- Zoom to place: flies from the whole world down to a street map of your place.
- Globe spin to place: a 3D globe spins to the place and a pin drops.
- Location stat card: a big number over a dark street map, for offices and venues.
Several places
- Multi-pin map: type a list of places and pins drop one by one.
- Store locator: a list of branches beside a map, each highlighted in turn.
- Trip itinerary map: numbered stops joined by a route, with a day list.
- Delivery radius map: a delivery or coverage radius in kilometres.
- Distance ruler: a measuring line that counts the distance between two places.
- Two-city comparison: two cities side by side with a stat for each.
Data on a map
Country data map colors countries by value with a legend, Map data bubbles sizes bubbles on cities, Heat map shows hot spots, and Connections map shoots lines from a hub to every destination.
Find them all in travel & maps.
Typing places
Start typing and pick a suggestion: cities, airports, landmarks, neighbourhoods and addresses all work. Picking from the list makes sure the pin lands on the right spot.
The map data
Street maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap data served by OpenFreeMap, country shapes come from Natural Earth, and the credits appear on the map. There is no API key to set up and nothing to pay for maps.
